About

ARGHAKHANCHI, NEPAL

I come from Arghakhanchi, Nepal, a beautiful corner of the country where the hills are steep, the roads test your patience, and almost every journey comes with a story. Growing up surrounded by hills probably had something to do with my fascination with the sky. Somewhere along the way, I started wondering how things fly, and unfortunately for my sleep schedule, that question followed me into engineering.

I went on to study Aerospace Engineering, which sounded like a very exciting idea at the time. It was. It still is. Although somewhere between aerodynamics, structures, thermodynamics, control systems, and a generous collection of equations, I learned that understanding how an aircraft flies is considerably easier than passing every subject on the first attempt.

University was a mix of curiosity, experimentation, confusion, and the occasional feeling that MATLAB was personally offended by my code. Not everything worked the first time. Some simulations refused to converge, some designs needed redesigning, and some calculations taught me that being almost right in engineering is usually another way of saying wrong. Looking back, those failures were some of my best teachers.

My experience in aerospace has taken me from design and simulation to the operational side of aviation. Working with aircraft and aviation operations gave me a different perspective: engineering is not just about making something work on paper, but making sure it works reliably in the real world.

These days, I'm particularly interested in aircraft design, aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control, UAVs, and computational engineering. I enjoy taking complicated problems apart, figuring out what is happening underneath, and then trying to build something better. My learning process usually follows a predictable pattern: confusion first, understanding later, and a suspicious amount of coffee somewhere in between.

Outside engineering, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, badminton, football, table tennis, music, and exploring new places. I also have an impressive talent for sleeping whenever I don't have somewhere I absolutely need to be. Weekends usually involve a little extra sleep, helping my mother in the kitchen, and occasionally convincing myself that I'll be productive later.

I'm now looking forward to graduate research, learning more, building better things, and working on problems difficult enough to keep me curious.

For now, I'm an aerospace engineer from the hills of Nepal, still fascinated by things that fly, still learning how to make things work, and still looking up whenever I hear an aircraft overhead.

Some things change after graduation. Apparently, that one doesn't.

Experience

Selected for the semester-long OpenFOAM internship run by FOSSEE at IIT Bombay, where I work on CFD tools and learning resources.

  • Ongoing: working on CFD simulation of the supersonic intake of a scramjet engine

Six months in the operations department at Yeti Airlines, working out the performance numbers pilots use before every departure.

  • Calculated takeoff, landing, and climb performance across varying aircraft weights and environmental conditions
  • Handled weight and balance, load and trim sheets, and last-minute changes in daily flight operations
  • Did flight planning, fuel estimation and payload optimization within the flight manual and operational limits
  • Analyzed runway and high-altitude performance to support Operations Control Center dispatch decisions
  • Trained across ATR-72 weight and balance, dangerous goods regulations, human factors in aviation, and aviation SMS
Bishal communicating with aircraft pilots over VHF radio during his OJT at Yeti Airlines
On-the-job VHF radio communication with pilots during flight operations, Yeti Airlines.

A member of the team at Pulchowk Campus that builds UAVs and flies them.

  • Built and integrated UAV systems from the ground up, from airframe to electronics
  • Worked alongside fellow aerospace engineers on hands-on UAV design and development
  • Flew autonomous missions and evaluated UAV performance in the field

Ran the RC car race for MechTRIX, the mechanical and aerospace exhibition at Pulchowk.

  • Coordinated the race from planning through race day
  • Organized technical competitions and ran the MechTRIX exhibition

Volunteered at the exhibition before I started organizing events for it.

  • Supported Robo-Soccer and Go-Kart Race operations across the exhibition

Research Interests

I am currently seeking PhD opportunities for Fall 2027 in aerospace engineering, with a particular interest in aircraft design, flight dynamics, and aircraft performance. My research interests focus on the analysis, design, and optimization of efficient and high-performance aircraft, supported by interests in aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, high-speed and hypersonic flows, and advanced UAV technologies. I aim to pursue research that combines computational, analytical, and practical approaches to address challenging problems in next-generation aerospace systems.
